Frequently Asked Questions

About Change Coffee
What is Change Coffee?

Change Coffee is a social enterprise backed by World Vision Australia, one of the country’s largest humanitarian and development organisations. We turn your everyday coffee ritual into a force for good by reinvesting 100 percent of profits into programs that empower vulnerable children, partner with First Nations communities, and build climate resilience.

Why did World Vision start a coffee brand?

World Vision created Change Coffee to build a sustainable funding stream that goes beyond donations. Coffee is a daily ritual for many Australians, and by switching to Change Coffee, people can support long term, systemic change through something they already buy and enjoy.

Impact and Mission
How does buying Change Coffee make an impact?

Every purchase supports World Vision programs in education, health, and livelihoods, while also helping grow a social enterprise designed for long term impact. Change Coffee funds impact alongside building a sustainable business; a portion of revenue supports programs, and as the business grows, profits are reinvested to deepen and scale that impact over time.

Sourcing and Ethical Standards
Do you source coffee from World Vision communities?

At this point, no. Many of the communities World Vision partners with are in highly vulnerable contexts, which means they are not yet able to consistently produce specialty-grade coffee at the quality and volumes required.

Rather than compromising on quality or creating pressure on communities that are focused on more urgent needs, we currently source coffee through trusted, third party verified partners. This allows Change Coffee to maintain high quality standards while directing funds and support to where it is needed most.

That said, this is not a closed door. As livelihoods strengthen and quality improves over time, there is potential for future sourcing where it is appropriate, viable, and led by community readiness. Impact comes first, always, and quality matters too.

Where does your coffee come from?

We source coffee from regions around the world through suppliers that work with Fairtrade cooperatives, Rainforest Alliance certified producers, and B Corp certified importers, supported by additional due diligence.

Is your coffee Fairtrade or organic?

Many of our coffees come through independently certified supply chains, including Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance, and some are also organic. We also work with B Corp certified import partners who maintain strong ethical and environmental standards.

While Change Coffee itself is not Fairtrade or organic certified, our sourcing is supported by World Vision Australia’s governance framework and our own due‑diligence processes to reduce the risk of unethical labour practices.

Our ethical approach is independently verified. Change Coffee is a Social Traders certified social enterprise and People + Planet First verified. World Vision Australia is ACNC registered and an ACFID member, with practices aligned to modern slavery legislation and compliance standards recognised by DFAT.

Coffee Quality and Brewing
What does specialty grade coffee mean?

Specialty-grade coffee scores 80 points or higher on the Specialty Coffee Association scale. This means it meets strict standards for flavour, aroma, balance, and consistency.

All Change Coffee coffees are carefully selected and roasted in small batches to ensure quality and freshness.

Do you offer different roast profiles?

Yes. We offer a range of roast profiles from lighter, brighter coffees to darker, chocolate forward roasts. Details are listed on each product page.

Can I buy coffee pre ground?

Yes. You can choose whole beans or select a grind size for all types of brew methods.

How should I store my coffee?

Store coffee in an airtight container in a cool, dry place away from light. Avoid the fridge. If freezing, store in small airtight portions.

Sustainability and Packaging
Is your packaging recyclable?

Most of our coffee bags are kerbside recyclable. Some products, such as hot chocolate or single serve sachets, currently require packaging that is not recyclable due to manufacturing limitations.

More environmentally friendly packaging options often require larger production volumes to be viable. As Change Coffee grows and order volumes increase, this opens the door to better packaging solutions, and we actively plan to transition where possible.

How do you minimise environmental impact?

We prioritise ethical sourcing, use afterburner technology at our roastery to reduce emissions, compost coffee chaff, reuse hessian bags, and offset carbon emissions through accredited programs.
