Channels of Hope Restore

Channels of Hope Restore is igniting powerful conversations about equality and healthy relationships in Lajamanu, a remote First Nations community in Central Australia.

Church community Elders in Lajamanu are leading the way—raising awareness of family violence, breaking down stigma, and challenging attitudes around gender roles and violence. Communities around the world affected by colonisation experience higher levels of family violence. The Lajamanu community is determined to change this story for their mob.

The project delivers community-led initiatives including large-scale events, group sessions, bible readings with discussion focused on family violence prevention, women’s days out, bush camps, men’s events, a local family violence response network, and a community newsletter. Local staff access family violence prevention training tailored to the local cultural context.

Together, these initiatives create space for faith, deep Warlpiri cultural knowledge, and family violence prevention evidence to work side by side—strengthening families and building safer communities. Skilled local Warlpiri project leaders, grounded in cultural knowledge, faith, and passion, are transforming their community-creating a safer community for women and girls.
