'Heroes for Change' is a public event featuring a great mix of inspiring, local guest speakers - each had a big vision and brought it to life. Hear their stories, learn the 'hows' and 'whys' behind the change they've made and are making in their communities.
Bring a friend or two, and make new ones on the night. A light meal, snacks, and beverages will be provided.

A member of the Victorian Bar, Barrister for 20 years turned social changemaker. Phil is a school chaplain and has started many community groups. Inspiring and connecting us to share stories and find our true purpose and gain friendship. Alongside these commitments, Phil (with family and friends) runs monthly gatherings for Men in the community (Shednite), a weekly youth group for High Schoolers and young adults (Shed Youth) and a bi-monthly family gathering (Shed Door Connect). All of these events are designed to connect people in the community and provide an inclusive gathering for those seeking friendship, support and community.

Chris is the Co Founder and Chief Barista of the 100 Coffee Movement, an organisation that aims to promote healthy, connected communities. He founded the movement after completing a personal project, to have 100 coffees in 100 weeks with strangers. It changed his life. He did a TEDx Talk on this project and the power of human connection. Chris is an MBA student and sits on the advisory board of Sourcing Justice, an organisation aiming to eliminate sex trafficking. He is the Co Lead of UNICEF Cook for Syria, a project raising awareness of UNICEF's work in Syria. Chris was named Humanitarian of the Year by RMIT University and was a finalist at the Graduate Management Awards of Australia in 2019.
Chris believes in the power of connection and relationship. Reaching out to others, one coffee at a time.
Craig Smith has been actively involved with the Blackburn Football Club for more than ten years. He started the club’s girls football program in 2012 at a time when few other clubs were interested in female football. The club now hosts one of the biggest and most successful female football programs in the east with five junior teams and two senior teams along with plans for more teams in 2020. Craig will provide some insights on what it is like to be a pioneer and the benefits that female football has provided not just to the club but to the community at large.
Craig will be touching on themes of Pursuing your dreams (without gender bias), developing and reconnecting club with full family inclusion. Forming solid life long friendships through community.
|This wonderful night will be hosted by Simone Dowding, Head of Social Enterprise for World Vision Australia. Simone is a social entrepreneur and a conscious capitalist with a big mission to change the world through everyday products. Launching World Vision's first social enterprise Change Coffee She believes coffee should be ethically sourced and give back to communities to ensure sustainability. Change coffee is also set up to economically empower woman globally. Imagine if every product on our shelves had a positive effect on the environment and humanity? The difference we could make collectively would be huge!|
